FINE ARTS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON NATIVE AMERICAN ART AND CULTURE
This year our fine arts program will focus on
Native American art and culture. Using the exhibit at the Field Museum
as the impetus to begin the study, our fine arts teacher, Marilyn Lovato
uses artifacts and art borrowed from the museum to bring the study of
the art and culture of our Native American brothers and sisters to our
children.
The students in preschool through eighth grade are
finding that the culture of each of the groups of people is unique and
very interesting. The older students are busy trying their hands at
recreating their own unique pieces of weaving. It is not as easy as it
looks!
The study will also include the making of rain
sticks, Kachina dolls, and masks. A demonstration of dance and music by
members of the American Indian Center will be a highlight for the
students.
Please join us for our art fair on April 8, 2008.
The exhibit will take place in our gym from 6 – 7:30 pm. For more
information, please call our school office at 312-326-6243.
