This year we will focus on EXPECTATION, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY. We
know that we have the greatest students in the world. So this year, the
expectation will be to challenge ourselves to be the best
students/teachers we can be, accept repsonsibility and always be
respectful of ourselves, our classmates and the adults in our community.
SUMMER SCHOOL SCHEDULE
All summer school students will have free on July 4 to celebrate
Independence Day with their families.
The last day of summer school is Friday, July 6. Final progress reports
will be mailed to students' homes the week of July 9.
TUITION CONTRACT DATES SET
School parents will receive a mailing in early July regarding tuition
payment dates and information about the first week of school.
Please note: The first tuition payment dates are August 1 and August 8,
2007. Tuition payments and fees will be taken in the lower hall from 6-8
pm. on these dates.
School will begin on Wednesday, August 22, 2007.
VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN NAMED
The administraion is pleased to announce that Dominique Heil is the
valedictorian of the Class of 2007.
Alexis Goetz is the Salutatorian of the Class of 2007.
ST BARBARA SCHOOL RECEIVES BP ENERGY GRANT
St. Barbara Elementary School will receive a $5000 grant thanks to a
grant written by our science teacher, Beth Polich. The grant will be
used to teach our students and families about electrical conservation.

ST BARBARA PARISH SUMMER FEST
St. Barbara Summer Fest will be a two day event this year. Slated for
Satruday evening and Sunday, July 21-22, it proves to be another
fun-filled time.
Saturday, the fun will take place immediately after the 5:00 pm. Mass.
Music, good fun and beverages will keep everyone entertained.
Sunday, the fest will run from 1-9 pm. There will be a special Polka
Mass at 12:00 noon featuring The Good Time Polka Band. Mass will take
place outside, weather permitting. There will be a special Kids' World
from 2-6 pm. Once again, back by popular demand, Nino Falino will
perform from 1-5:30 pm. Games of chance will be open throughout the day
and bingo will be played from 3-5 pm. We hope to have crafters and a
wellness representation and information booth from Mercy Healthcare. The
Tony Alvarez band will play from 5:30 -8:30 pm. The grand raffle will be
held at 8:30 am.
We hope that everyone will join us. School parents can still sign up to
work service hours by calling Mrs. Ruth Czarnecki at 312-842-7979.
ST BARBARA EARNS MONEY FOR ST. JUDE
Our students raised $3004.67 for St. Jude Children's Hospital this year.
Our top pledge was brought in by first grader, Megan Pirelli, who
brought in $303.00. Since 1995, St. Barbara students have raised
$37,940.00 for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Congratulations!
BISHOP GUSTAVO GARCIA SILLER CONFIRMS EIGHTH GRADE CLASS
On Sunday, April 29, 2007 nineteen eighth graders received the Holy
Spirit in the sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Gustavo prayed over the
young people and annointed them. His warmth and genuine love was felt by
all who attended. Congratulations to all of our young people and their
families.
EIGHTH GRADE CLASS VISITS WASHINGTON
The eighth grade class visited our nation's capital during the last week
of April. Lauren Hailer and Daniel Gorman layed the wreath on the grave
of the unknown soldier. The students also visited all of the monuments,
the Archives, the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the National
Cathedral, the Native American Museum, Mt. Vernon and Old Alexandria.
They even experienced a ghost tour. It was a trip that they will never
forget!
SAFETY REMINDER
Please do not bring dogs or other pets onto the playground at arrival or
dismissal times. Even the friendliest animal can become frightened by
many excited children.
The parking lot is closed to traffic in the morning from 7:50 - 8:15 am.
for the safety of our children.
SUNNY DELIGHT UPC LABELS SAVED BY TEACHERS
Our teachers are saving Sunny Delight UPC labels to earn classroom
materials. Please send them to school with a student or throw them in
the Campbell Soup box in the back of church.
TWO TEACHERS ATTEND NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Ms. Beth Polich and Ms. Holly Bueb attended the National Science
Teachers' Association annual conference in St. Louis, MO on March 30-
April 1, 2007.
PRINCIPAL ATTENDS EFFECTIVE SCHOOLS CONFERENCE
Mrs. Dorene Hurckes attended the Effective Schools Conference in Phoenix
on March 8-10, 2007, with five memebrs of the Office of Catholic
Schools. St. Barbara School faculy is studying the work of Robert
Marzano, noted educational researcher. Mr. Marzano's instructional
strategies will serve as the framework for curriculum development and
teaching at St. Barbara.
