FINE ARTS PROGRAM AT ST. BARBARA SCHOOL
St. Barbara School is very proud of its fine arts program. In addition
to a yearly focus on one particular study of a visual art period or
culture, the students also visit the Chicago Symphony, the Art Institute
of Chicago and Opera in the Neighborhood.
ART FAIR 2007
This year's art fair was held on Tuesday evening, May 15, 2007. Our
students studied the great masters and eagerly displayed their work for
everyone to see. See pictures throughout our website. A HUGE thank you
to our fine arts teacher, Marilyn Lovato and her consultant, Phyllis
LoPiccolo for their hard work.
PAST ART FAIRS
ART FAIRE 2006 AN EVENING ON THE NILE
The ancient Egyptians were mysterious, amazing and fascinating people.
They have always intrigued those cultures that have followed them in
history. The ancient Romans carried off Egyptian obelisks to various
parts of their empire. And in modern days, right here in the United
States, we have the Luxor pyramid and sphinx in Las Vegas.
The students of St. Barbara School also share this fascination which
will be reflected in this year's Art Fair, "An Evening on the Nile".
Students have created works that are based upon Egyptian collars,
"papyrus" banner paintings, tomb-wall paintings, mummy cases and much
more.
The Art Fair took place on April 4, 2006. It was an event to behold!
FAIRE 2005
This year's fair was titled "An All-American Art Fair". The fair
featured the children's interpretation of the works of famous artists,
GEORGIA O'KEEFFE, JACKSON POLLACK, JAMES MACNEIL WHISTLER, ANDREW WYETH,
KEITH HARING, ANDY WARHOL, JOSEPH STELLA, EDWARD HOPPER, JOHN WARNER
NORTON and WILLIAM MERRITT CHASE. Everyone had a wonderful time. A big
thanks to Mrs. LoPiccolo for all of her hard work. A special thanks to
Ms. Pomierski and Mrs. Allen for the wonderful decorations and to Ms.
Morales for helping with the publicity.
2002-2003
The artisitic talents of St. Barbara students were once again
highlighted at what is becoming an annual event for our school. Under
the direction of Mrs. Phyllis LoPiccolo, all of our students in grades
preschool through eight studied the various aspects of Asian art and
culture. Beautifully delicate panels and murals done in paints and
pastels transformed our gym into a serene panorama of Asian art. The
walls of the gym were filled with the art of all of our students. Panda
bears and graden scenes, architecture and kimonos demonstrated the
talents of our students.
The cafeteria was transformed into an Asian graden cafe complete with
Chinese lanterns and dragon tablepieces thanks to the creativity of our
second grade teacher Ms. Dorle Pomierski and one of our parents Mrs.
Felice Allen. Chinese egg rolls, fortune cookies, coffee and lemonade
were served thanks to the expertise of the Wong family.
Of course none of this could have happened without the help of some
great volunteers: Mrs. Heil, Mrs. Gortowski, Mrs. Ruggiero, Mrs.
Laskowski-Ferrell, Ms. Marynowski, Mr. LoPiccolo and our very own kids!
