for 1st Semester, School Year, 2007-2008
Dear Parishioners,
St. Barbara Elementary School continues to grow and flourish. Enrollment
increased for the second year in a row. For the first time in a long time,
the school had a waiting list for preschool and the extended day programs.
Plans are being drafted for building renovation of the south wing to
accommodate a growing need for those two programs.
St. Barbara School is proud of its accomplishments. Our preschool teacher,
Mrs. Garrett, is one of twenty-five teachers who are part of an early
childhood leadership program sponsored in conjunction with the Office of
Catholic Schools, Big Shoulders and National Louis University. Last spring,
St. Barbara School was awarded a British Petroleum Grant of $5,000 to be
used for supplies and support of an energy awareness curriculum. The fine
arts program continues to evolve into an outstanding experience for our
children. Our students and graduates continue to do well in all academic
areas, in particular, mathematics.
All federal and state funding is accessed to support school programs. E-rate
funding provides for 50% of internet and telecommunication services. Once
again, the Myzdlo Fund provides every St. Barbara School family with a
scholarship. Big Shoulders provides additional scholarships to active
families in need. The
St. Barbara Board of Specified Jurisdiction has worked diligently over the
past several months. The new attractive tuition rates and registration
packets will be sent home this week to our school families. Registration of
new students is ongoing.
As this school year’s close is quickly approaching, we look forward to the
2008-09 school year. We know that your support is important to our success.
Respectfully submitted,
Dorene A. Hurckes
